Born: Gisborne, 1961
Based: Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay Clayton Gibson works predominantly with Oamaru stone and totara.
His sculptures are usually large-scale, and often explore themes which stem from his close relationship to the coast and the land, as well as the way people interact with these environments and each other.
Clayton has exhibited widely, mainly in Hawke’s Bay, and has been a Norsewear Art Awards finalist.
Visitors to the 2008 Wildflower Sculpture Exhibition may remember Clayton as the ‘real life artist’ working on his substantial Oamaru stone piece in the garden.
Clayton also teaches at Taikura Rudolph Steiner School in Hastings.
