Doug Kennedy

Born: Woodville, 1958

Based: Masterton, Wairarapa

Doug Kennedy had a long and rewarding career in panel-beating and spray-painting before he found his way to sculpture. His work also included structural engineering, metal-polishing and sheetmetal coachbuilding.

It was while he was fabricating sheetmetal panels that Doug began to explore the artistic side of these skills, and this lead him to study art at UCOL in Palmerston North in 2000. He continued his studies at Wellington Polytechnic in Petone the following year.

Since then, Doug has shown his sculptures throughout New Zealand in galleries and open air exhibitions, including the 2008 Wildflower Sculpture Exhibition and Auckland’s Eye For Sculpture 2009.
