Based: Waimarama Beach, Hawke’s Bay
Marcus Helmore has spent much of his life exploring his creativity through painting, ceramics, bronze sculpture, cartooning and designing gates. But fifteen years ago he attended a course in stone carving and discovered his ideal medium.
Since then he has been working in Oamaru stone and Mt Somers limestone, balancing this with his day job as a farmer. He is now in the gradual process of moving to Waimarama Beach permanently, and taking with him a large amount of stone.
Marcus has exhibited in various galleries and exhibitions, including the first Wildflower Sculpture Exhibition and the 2008 Mt Somers Symposium, where his work was purchased by the organisation for the new sculpture park.
