Based: Maraekakaho, Hawke’s Bay
Russell Evenson is a bronze caster who also works in stone and wood.
He completed an engineering apprenticeship in 1980 and worked in the trade for many years before changing direction in the mid-90s, and has been making art since then. His early sculptures were metal, usually copper, but in 2002 he built a foundry and began lost-wax casting for himself and other New Zealand artists.
Currently Russell is working on public and private commissions, as well as his own ongoing projects from his studio in rural Hawke’s Bay. He also teaches workshops on bronze sculpture.
