William Jameson

Born: Hawke’s Bay, 1957

Based: Cicada Works, Whakatu, Hawke’s Bay

William Jameson works mainly in steel and other metals. He completed studies in Fine Arts at EIT in 1999 after a previous life as a farmer in Central Hawke’s Bay.

William has exhibited widely over the last decade, and his practise includes the design and manufacture of street furniture and sculpture for the urban landscape, as well as artwork for the domestic environment. He frequently collaborates with other Hawke’s Bay sculptors to create large-scale public artworks, and was extensively involved with the rejuvenation of inner city Hastings.

He was a co-curator of the 2008 Wildflower Sculpture Exhibition, and his piece Mythic Beast, a large-scale steel bull, was one of the event’s major talking points.

This year William gained second place in the Fieldays No. 8 Wire National Art Award with his work Wireless Connection.
